The Art of Surrender

Surrendering is not something that can be done just one time. It’s a practice of awareness and choosing over and over again. As humans, we encounter many challenges, and are given many opportunities to creatively overcome those challenges. The practice of surrender is an art, and may very well be one of the hardest things we are faced with during our lives. When we choose to surrender, we are choosing to acknowledge our place as part of a much larger whole.

The mind does it’s job by combating the idea of surrender naturally. It will frame things in a way that makes you feel alone or singular, and will urge you to take control, and take action...or else. It’s very good at observing people, situations and yourself to make judgments that bring about feelings of lack, worry, worth, fear and stress.

When it comes to the idea of a divine source of wisdom or higher power being available at all times without any strings attached, to help and guide you...your mind may work to convince you that you are crazy, or that communicating with a Spirit Team is a made up notion for people that can’t handle their lives.

This is real life mind talk and is designed for one purpose.

So that you may choose.

Once you become conscious, you must take responsibility for the magical gift of choice.

Life is a series of unknowns, and that’s one of the greatest tools your mind has to work with. Your mind wants to know what’s going to happen, how it’s going to happen, and when it’s going to happen. But, the freedom of choice makes that impossible. Choices are made all the time that change what the mind was projecting.

Your mind says the unknown is scary, but your heart says the unknown is possibility.

Surrendering is an art, and it’s a decision. Knowing when it’s time to let go requires awareness, and having the courage to let go requires trust and belief.

Here are three big points of awareness to pay attention to when practicing the art of surrender:

1 - The Illusion of Control

You are not in control of anything outside of yourself. You never have been. If you believe that you are, then you can be sure that your mind has convinced you to believe in an illusion.

To clarify...you have control over a few very important things. Your thoughts and your belief systems, which create the foundation that you operate from. Your feelings, which are a direct result of the thoughts you choose to think and beliefs you choose to carry. And, your actions, which are driven by your thoughts and feelings, and express how you are choosing to show up in the world.

Once you step out of the illusion of control, and surrender control over anything outside of yourself, you gain the freedom to live your best life.

2 - Victimhood

You will not continue to operate in a victim state unless you choose to. Life is not happening TO you, it’s happening FOR you.

You have chosen to come and experience humanity in your particular vessel at this particular time in order to learn lessons and evolve. Taking responsibility for your stuff and your choices, and releasing blame, judgment and guilt requires forgiveness and the art of surrender.

3 - Divine Direction

Your plan is not THE plan. The happenings and experiences of your life will be divinely presented no matter what. Trying too heavily to control when and how things will happen will not change divine timing, divine order, or divine opportunity.

It’s not up to you to direct the bigger plan. Your job is to make plans to the best of your ability, and then ask for help from the higher source of wisdom, and flow with the guidance you are given. Releasing expectation, detaching from the outcome, trusting your path to unfold, and letting Spirit show you the way is what divine direction is all about.

The art of surrender is a beautiful thing. It’s you giving into to being you, and connecting with your divinity and deep wisdom. It’s trusting what really matters, and flowing through life’s challenges and victories. Choosing to surrender over and over again is choosing to live.
